The Use of Blessed Candles in the Sick Room
When a person confined at home is to receive Holy Communion or a priest will celebrate with that ill individual the sacrament of the anointing of the sick, a small table or stand should be ready. This should be about two feet square, solidly built and covered with a white linen cloth upon which should be placed a standing crucifix, two Blessed Candles lighted and in plain candlesticks, a glass of water, spoon, a napkin for use as a Communion cloth and some absorbent cotton of the anointing is to take place.
When the priest arrives, greet him at the door with a lighted Candle and conduct him immediately to the sick room.
Such articles as prayer books, rosaries and pictures should not be placed on the table to be used by the priest.
